Selecting the Right Ball... selecting the right ball not only helps you score better, but it also makes bowling a lot more fun. At San Diego Bowling Supply, we are here to help you select the right ball for your need.
Polyester or Plastic: The durability comes from the hard, low friction nature of the polyester cover. This type of ball tends to skid more and go straighter. Most beginner bowlers started with these balls; however, many experienced and professional bowlers use them for spare shots and for very dry lane conditions.
Urethane: In the late 1970s, manufacturers started making this coverstocks softer than polyester in order to create more hook potential. It is the preferred coverstock for beginning hook bowlers.
Reactive Resin: Ball manufacturer started adding resin particles to their urethane coverstocks in the early 1990s. The tacky surface increased its hook potential. Reactive Resin tends to make the ball go further down the lane on the oil before it hooks. Reactive resin is the primary for most experienced bowlers on most lane conditions.
Particle: Ball manufacturers add textured particles such as ceramics and glass to the resin enhanced polyurethane balls. By adding particles to the ball, it gave the ball more grips in the oil for a smooth, controllable hook style, while maintaining the powerful backend of reactive resin.
